L'Abbaye du Palais, Limousin
(www.abbayedupalais.com)
| Location: |
L’Abbaye du Palais de Notre Dame, was established under the supervision of Bernard of Clervaux at the start of the 12th century. During the French Revolution the main building was destroyed. It housed the chapter room on the first and the dormitory on the second floor. At the end of the 18th century this part was rebuilt and now it accommodates the “chambres d’hôtes”. Its' location, about half-way from Calais to the South, makes the abbey an ideal pit stop for those on their way to Spain or the south of France. The region offers a variety of entertainment. The river Creuse is known for its many little sandy beaches with good quality swimming water & extra facilities during summer months. Quite a few attractions are located nearby: the wolves park, the giant labyrinth, an amusement park with swimming pool and a sea water aquarium. A great new tree climbing park ‘Arbre en Arbre’, where trails have been set out through treetops. A little further away is the theme park Vulcania. Quite a hit with children & very educational.
