Why go to the Canaries?
- The only short-haul destination for guaranteed winter warmth
- A wide variety of islands and landscapes from lush green la Gomera to the renowned moonscape of Lanzarote
- The smaller islands offer an off the beaten track holiday without being devoid of facilities or being very difficult to get to try La Gomera or La Palma
- Good choice of accommodation of all types hotel,s villas apartments, large or small
- Plenty of things to get out and about and see geysers, mountains, camels
.
- Beautiful beaches on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote the former a windsurfers paradise
- Good sized towns or developments with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and medical facilities
- Most resorts have good sporting and leisure facilities
Things to think about:
- The major islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote)are very developed in parts, so choose carefully. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is a good choice, as is La Gomera if you dont mind the short ferry transfer.
- the weather is generally around 22C during the winter months, but most of the islands have a sunny side especially Tenerife(The South East). While warm winter weather is the norm, it cant be guaranteed, especially in December/January
- sea is Atlantic and can therefore be pretty chilly and rough, although Playa Blanca on Lanzarote is known for being more sheltered
- Fuerteventura is less developed and very beautiful with wide, windswept beaches, but be prepared, it is VERY windy, most of the time
