- Crete is one of the largest and most scenically diverse Greek Islands.
- Fantastic landscapes, from snow-capped white mountains, the breathtaking samaria gorge (and plenty of other gorges) wide sweeping bays, pink sand, tiny fishing villages, incredible historical sights. Each province has its own treasures and character.
- Fascinating towns such as Chania and Rethymnon.
- Plenty of delightful villages where you can get a real sense of Greek life, such as Georgeopolis.
- Excellent beaches, from wide windswept bays to the incredibly calm, buoyant water of Stavros Bay. Plenty of very safe beaches for kids.
- Good variety of restaurants.
- North West and South East are a lot less developed than rest of island.
Things to think about:
- Fairly long flight around 4 hours.
- Island is large, so visiting it all isnt possible, worth researching area which offers you most.
- Can be over-developed. Give Ag Nic a miss!
- Weever fish has been known (very poisonous) so good idea for toddlers to wear sea shoes. See planning it page for information.
