The USA
offers an incredible variety of cultures, geography, cities, climates. There
are great city breaks such as New York, Boston, LA, San Francisco, Chicago.
Excellent warm weather holiday destinations - California, Florida, the
Carolinas, Arizona, Hawaii. Exceptional National Parks and world famous
treasures such as the Grand Canyon, the deserts, the mountain ranges, the
waterfalls. Just about everyone has their own favourite American dream, so
we’ll confine ourselves to good reasons to visit the USA with a baby or
toddler:

The
service culture means that everyone is always very helpful.

Standard
of accommodation is mostly very high.

Common
language ease of communication.

Restaurants
are generally very informal and geared to kids, with special menus.

Beach
resorts usually have a lot of facilities on offer and are well equipped.

Good
medical facilities (but don’t forget the insurance!).

Great
shopping bargains.
-
Plenty
of distraction activities - theme parks, cinemas, bowling...
To think about:

Long
flight times and considerable time difference on West Coast.

Car
culture means you have to drive more or less everywhere, so not much strolling
around, and a lot of in and out of the car.

Most
towns have no-go areas so you have to be ‘sensible’ in most locations
at all times.
-
Great
for wildlife/nature exploring.
-
Size of
country means difficult to do 2 centre, or to do many different things within
one day.
Best times to visit:
Florida/Carolinas:
Feb-April - warm but not humid; May getting hotter but still OK; June-August
very humid with frequent showers (but it is cheaper); September-November
hurricane season and best avoided!
Hawaii:
All year round, very humid all year.
Northern
California: May-September. San Francisco always prey to mists and can
be chilly any time of year.
October-February can be quite chilly and rainy.
Southern
California: Good all-year destination - best March - Sept, but good T
shirt weather Oct-Dec - good season for little ones.
New York
and Boston: Nov-March cold with chance of snow; May-September warm with
variable humidity.
Flight times:
From 6 hours (Boston) to 12 hours (San Francisco).
Time difference:
From GMT-5 hrs (East Coast) to GMT-8 hrs (West Coast).
Currency:
US Dollar. US dollar travellers cheques accepted as cash. These and
credit/debit cards will be all you really need, with cash for tips.
TIP:
Insurance - make sure you have as much as you can, for all the family.
